In 2013 the Flemish government started a population investigation into colorectal cancer in cooperation with CvKo (Center for Cancer Detection). Alle Flemings between 51 and 74 years old receive a test kit every other year. With this kit they can take a sample of their feces and send it to a lab subsequently. It is screened for traces of blood, which may be an indication of colon cancer. The stool test may save 900 lives per year this way.
Together with 4Werk, the umbrella organisation of the West Flemish social enterprises, WAAK developed a tailored carousel that enables co-workers to position the different parts of the test kits in the holders easily and efficiently and put it in an envelope subsequently. In the mean time the original carousel has been transformed into a line setup with tailored « shoulder forms » for the test kit in order to make the process corona proof.
