WAAK obtains the UNITAR certificate ‘SDG Pioneer’

Thursday 29 October 2020
On Tuesday, October 27th, 2020 WAAK received the SDG Pioneer certificate from UNITAR (the United Nations Institute for Training and Research) as one of the first in line Belgian companies. The award of SDG Pioneer is based on maintained actions within each domain of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Sustainable entrepreneurship is the DNA of a social enterprise and therefore an important value for our 2000 co-workers. It is part of our mission, our actions and achievements. We are delighted with the acknowledgement of course, it is a motivation to continue on this path. Ecological economy is an important spearhead for the future of WAAK.” says Tim Vannieuwenhuyse, CEO..

WAAK worked on subjects as gender equality and circular economy and invested in solar panels, insulation and rainwater recuperation this past year. Apart from that we developed a flex table and a balanced score card for social enterprises. In addition to this Ergo@work was our main focus as well as the further development of our ZOWE projects.

All these initiatives can be linked to one of the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. A positive annual evaluation finally yields a yearly certificate of the VOKA Charter Duurzaam Ondernemen. After having participated 3 times successfully in Voka Charter we were awarded the UNITAR certificate. We are very proud to be one of the 21 West-Flemish and the 100 Belgian companies to have succeeded.
